Haleen is a musical art mariage that started when we were living in nature in Spain 2019.
Hans De Bruck and Kathleen Merckx, both born in Belgium, have lived most of their lives there, met on an online dating site in 2008. They were married 6 months later and left Belgium for Norway in 2010. After an explosive awakening in 2015 everything changed and they moved to Spain to be able to live in a more simple and natural way and as they said: “yes we need the sun, the warmth… as we are vegans, we need a lot of fruits and vegtables, so south is where we trive! Looking for more water and green landscapes we moved recently to Portugal. And we must say Portugal looks fabulous, it is an absolute joy to walk every day in your beautiful nature, the waterfalls, the woods!!”
What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
Hans- I was on a concert when I was around 12 years old and I was watching AC/DC…from that moment I realized I also want to play guitar and want to be on that stage.
Kath- My husband got me into it… and it is not so long ago that i realized that making music is my chosen path. A very nice surprise to me.
Tell us about your new music (Song/EP/Mixtape/Album)? And what’s the story behind it?
There was a huge change in music style, from metal to this healing music we make now in 432Hz.
Our music is created from a place of love, while we make the songs, we heal ourselves and it is nice to see that our music is a medicine for others as well, because this is our purpose.
What makes your music unique? How would you describe it? (genres/sub-genres)
We do not like labels and our music does not fit into any box, we are completely free in our creations.
While we make a new song, we record it at the same time, it is fresh and pure…. What one could say is that it is medicine music… healing and touching the soul.
Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
Our biggest influences are NOW, Sam Garett and Yaima, and all the previous experience helped me becoming the musician that I am today. We are not looking for collaborations, but you never know.
How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
We do not have other obligations except from taking care of ourselves, we live completely free in our mind and heart and in nature. Art is our work.
Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? (awards, projects or public performances etc.
Hans- There is no best moment in my musical career that is comparable with the music we make today. I could name some nice big festivals or gigs but again, they do not give me the satisfaction.
Kath- I started to make music a few years ago with my husband, so I cannot talk about a music career yet… But my best moments are when i am into creating new melodies and lyrics.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Be free, be yourself in every creation you make.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Love and accept yourself as you are.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
We recently have been contacted by Sarah Anahory Vapaos, a famous Portuguese artist. She is doing a big art project for galleries and musea with the goal of going international. We are looking forward to be involved in this project. And we keep on producing new songs, finishing a second album soon.
