My name is “Maguire” and I am a new artist originally from the Dallas area. If there’s one thing to know about me it’s that I want to be different and make people relate to and truly feel my music. I can’t wait to start this journey and share it with the world.
Q: What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
A: Honestly, I kinda stumbled upon it. Music has always been a passion for me but I always thought I had to know how to play an instrument or sing in order to pursue it so I wrote it off. The last couple of months I have had this burning desire to just try it and see what could come of it so I decided to start writing and learning how to mix and master. Everything I know is all from YouTube and fellow artists which is amazing because I can see myself constantly getting better.
Q: Tell us about your new music (Song/EP/Mixtape/Album)? And what’s the story behind it?
A: My new song titled “How High” is only my second public release. I was praying a lot to God about the direction of my life and if I should truly pursue music during the time that I wrote this song. The same night I started those prayers, I sat down in my studio and this song just came to me all at once. I never really spent much time changing lyrics or anything because I felt that this was how it was supposed to be. I felt like God was talking to me.
Q: What makes your music unique? How would you describe it? (genres/sub-genres)
A: My music is unique because I don’t try to sound like anybody else I wanna sound like me. I want people to hear my songs and know immediately that this is Maguire. I want people to be driving in their cars alone and crank up the volume to drown out their feelings. I want people to feel what I feel when I listen to impactful music.
Q: Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
A: My biggest musical influence is definitely Kid Cudi. He is an artist that I have always respected and who has made the biggest impact on my life. Every single one of his albums has a different vibe and I love that he makes the music that he wants to make regardless of what may be popular. It may be cliche but it is honestly true, Kid Cudi changed my life. Another huge influence on me is Mac Miller. Rest in peace to one of the greats of our generation. You could feel every word in his songs and I would give anything to just see him live and hear all of the beautiful songs he has in the vault.
Q: How long have you been in the music industry?
A: Not long! I would say the last 2 months are when I have really been grinding every single day. The last year I have been working on music but needed to find it within me to just let go and have faith in my music. I feel like I am my biggest critic and I need to just believe sometimes.
Q: Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? (awards, projects or public performances etc.
A: My biggest moment is the day my song “How High” hit 10,000+ plays on SoundCloud. Once I saw that “k” at the end of the number, I literally had the biggest wave of happiness that I could never replicate with anything else.
Q: How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
A: You know it has been pretty hard. All day every day all I want to do is make music and get better at my craft. Sometimes I feel like I push people away because I want to leave what I’m doing to just get in the studio. Funny enough, my family doesn’t really know that I am doing this. They are my biggest supporters in everything I have ever done and I want to prove to them that I can be successful in music before I tell them everything I have been working on. After explaining to my friends how much of a positive impact music has on my mental health, they have been my number one fans and want me to succeed more than anything.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
A: One of the most popular slogans in the world… “Just do it”. If I had still been critical and scared of dropping a song, I would have never gotten those plays and fans on SoundCloud and I definitely would not be having this interview right now!
Q: If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
A: It’s all going to be okay. I know times get tough and I know sometimes all you want to do is just stay in your room all day and do nothing. But you have to know that the good times will come and you have the strength within you to get through whatever it is that you’re going through right now. There are people that love you whether you know it or not and you have so much to do in your life you just have to get over this small bump in the road. Trust me, I’m still in that bump so I’m also talking to myself here.
Q: What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
A: I got an EP dropping sometime later this year! “How High” will be on it for sure and I have the second song on the EP titled “My Soul” releasing in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned! I love y’all so much and please just do whatever it is that you’ve wanted to do but have been holding back on. You never know what can happen until you shoot your shot.
