INTERVIEW: SoundLava Interview with phonk artist "Shipu"

Hey guys my name is Shipu aka Deniz D. and I am a newcomer phonk artist. I started creating phonk tracks in the summer of 2022 and I am currently building up a fanbase of phonk enthusiasts on Spotify and other streaming platforms.

Q. What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
A. As a child I learned to play the guitar and was always involved in music. I dream of creating my own music – with phonk I found the perfect music genre for myself, mainly because I am a chill dude who enjoys some heavy bass.

Q. Tell us about your upcoming music – any new Songs or collabs? And whats the story behind it?
A. I am currently focusing on creating collabs with other phonk artists – “AreaHysteria”, “SOPV” and “Amøn”, just to name a few – my own tracks are created in “sessions” – if I find the time and the muse to create a new track i will grind to perfect it. Trends, my own feelings, depression, every emotion happening in my life can be seen as the story.

Q. What makes your music unique? How would you describe it? (genres/sub-genres)
A. My phonk is not your typical phonk – I always try to achieve a crisp sound with a perfect bass and my tracks are more melodic. My music can be categorized into the phonk sub-genres house and wave phonk, but i created drift phonk tracks aswell.

Q. Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist you would like to collaborate with in the future?
A. Tough question – I have to say “skeler”, his heavy basses are perfection, his mixing and mastering is incredible, his ability to make the track come to life is a big inspiration to me. I would love to collaborate with him in the future.

Q. How long have you been in the music industry?
A. I have been in the music industry almost three years now – actively creating music since this summer. Before that I tried to learn how to make music and how to perfect my own style. I always hesitated to upload my tracks because I´ve never believed that I achieved a somewhat good level of mixing and mastering – but since my first track “Phonk You!” blew up on Spotify I am proud to upload my music so everyone can enjoy it.

Q. Which is the best moment in your musical career that you´re most proud of?
A. The best moment in my musical career? Getting to know the other phonk artists and to collab with them to create more awesome phonk. I am most proud of reaching 100.000 streams on my first ever released track “Phonk You!”.

Q. How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
A. This is a tough question – i always have to prioritize, its always one thing or another thats left behind – but i try to find a way to handle all these obligations at the same time.

Q. What advice would you give aspiring musicians?
A. Don’t stress yourself, if the finished product is not perfect that´s fine, nobody is perfect in the beginning. Try to evolve your own style, never give up and never stop grinding.

Q. If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
A. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Its a blessing to have such supportive fans. I am still at the beginning of this journey and i can not wait to show you whats planned in the near future – Stay tuned!

Q. What´s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
A. I don´t wanna spoil anything, but i am currently working on some new tracks on my own and as mentioned before, on some new collaborations.
