My new Ep: https://linktr.ee/THEDEMONTAMER
My Artist name is “RŌNIN THE DEMON TAMER” or “RŌNIN” for short It was originally “$AMURAI NA$”, but I decided to change it because it was in association to an old group I used to be in that I started with a great friend of mine “SAMURAI12GAGE” when we were 17. There were 7 other people in the group such as “CHODE”, “CACMikey” and my little brother “Kdot” who made the cover art of my newest Ep “THE BIRTH OF RŌNIN THE DEMON TAMER”. Later on some of us grew apart, because we all just evolved into something different, some of us chose different paths. Much love to them all though. I chose to change my name to “RŌNIN” because I’m big into Japanese culture, it means the wandering masterless samurai. I choose to add “THE DEMON TAMER” on my name because I battle with a lot of Trauma, depression, anxiety, bad habits, and addiction, which causes me to be paranoid all the time so I am often antisocial. Which I talk about a lot on my new Ep “THE BIRTH OF RŌNIN THE DEMON TAMER”.
Q: What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
A. What got me into music was, my dad first of all, my dad would blast a lot of different artists in his whip such as ye, drake, lil Wayne, kendrick lamar, The Weeknd etc. Second of all, my momma, she played a lot of Michael Jackson, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Rick James, Sade, Whitney Huston, and etc. Third of all my Uncle the goat “Poloponedagod”. Most importantly who inspired me the most growing up was my big brother “Dav Sensei” and my cousin “Mont Nasty”. Growing up my big bro and my cousin started this rap group named “ANTISOCIAL”. I always wanted to be a part of it but I guess I didn’t have the sauce at the time, it’s all good though, anyways They would upload YouTube videos of them freestyling, and dancing, And they would have me around while they would record in the studio. I was 7 years old watching them be super passionate about their music dreams, selling their mixtapes on the corner, and believing in themselves enough to perform on stage and take control of the crowd. Later on when I was 12 years old my dad bought me a laptop and this software called “magix music maker 2013”, at first I would just make beats for fun, then in 2018 when I turned 17 that’s when I got really motivated and serious about music because I went through a break up that changed my life forever, and that’s when met my homie “Samurai12gage” a very cool dude btw, we related alot and motivated each other to make music. He taught me how to use this program named “Audacity” he was so cool that he even gave me his old acer laptop for free and a his JBL speaker, and that’s when I audio engineered my first 3 song Ep called “Valenthots day” in my dads basement, i was healing from a break up at the time, I was listening to a lot of Xxxtentacion, Juice wrd, post malone, Joji, kid cudi, Tyler the creator, Jaden Smith, willow smith, but I started exploring their albums and would just find the songs that resonated with me that most, there’s a lot more, but anyways these artists/people inspired me to get started on my serious musical and spiritual journey.
Q: Tell us about your new music (Song/EP/Mixtape/Album)? And what’s the story behind it?
A. So I just recently dropped my self-titled Ep named “RŌNIN THE DEMON TAMER”. There’s 3 songs on it. I just wanted to go back to being more open and real on this project. I took a lot of inspiration from my first 3 songs Ep “valenthots day”. It’s about how I struggle with opening up to people because I have a lot of trauma/“Demons” that I need to “Tame”/heal from, and a lot of things that I need to let go of from my past relationship. That I am currently working on.
Q: What makes your music unique? How would you describe it? (genres/sub-genres)
A. What makes my music so unique is that I’m very versatile. I’m multi-talented, I can go in any lane. I have an indie rock album coming out soon.
Q: Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
A. Dead or alive im going to say my uncle Poloponedagod, my big bro Dav Sensei, my cousin Mont Nasty, Michael Jackson, prince, Xxxtentacion, lil uzi, ye, kid cudi, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, drake, paramore, Nirvana, Tame impala, Beach house, tears for fears, Phil collins, and Neon Indian. You can see a lot of my influences in all of my Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/user/thauzumakiclan/playlists
I would love to collaborate with Paramore, Tame Impala, Neon Indian, Beach House, ye, Kid Cudi, Drake, and The Weeknd, and a lot more that you see on my Spotify playlist lol.
Q: How long have you been in the music industry?
A. I started taking it more seriously in 2018, so for about 4 and a half years.
Q: Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? (awards, projects or public performances etc.
A. The best moment in my musical career was when I was in my group called “The samurai’s” and we performed our first show at a bar named “Spicoli’s Reverb” which is closed down permanently now lol, but it was an amazing ass experience because we got to set the whole thing up. Got to meet some cool local artists, sold merchandise, got paid, and got lit!
Q: How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
A. How do I balance my music with real life? That’s a good question. Me and reality get along for the most part lol shout out to hayley williams. But anyways I usually go to work, stay to myself and do my job until I clock out to be honest, then I come home and I either audio engineer music for myself or for my brother “Dav sensei” and my cousin “Mont Nasty”…or I daydream lol. I keep a very small circle of friends, and I also try my best to keep in touch with my family too most of the time. They understand if I’m distant I’m just working on me. I check on my momma a lot though, I love her so much, she’s helped me through a lot<3
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
A. It’s okay to be a perfectionist, take your time. That’s when you get your best work.🤟🏾
Q: If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
A. Always believe in yourselfs, and I love y’all, thank y’all for listening to my music. More music to come!
Q: What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
A. A lot more projects are coming! You might get a full fledged album from me soon. I actually am currently in the process of learning how to make beats right now, I’m learning how to play the piano. I’m getting pretty good at it…I’m in college now for digital mass media also, I start in fall of this year. I want to do a lot of creative things. In the future, I’m taking my time so it can be the best body of work I’ve ever made to date!
