Buffalo NY band Swill releases 4th full length album, “Turn the Lights Back On”
We are Swill, and the band has been around since 2008. The name was established by me (Scott Kent) in an attempt to find something that would be a playful way of explaining our music…but a name that was also simple.
We just released our 4th full length album called “Turn the Lights Back On”. It has 11 tracks, and we’re exited for people to hear our interesting blend of classic and modern rock.
Q. What got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
A. For me personally, it was just being in awe of someone like Eddie Van Halen and trying to find out how he made a guitar sound that way. That was 1986. From there though I realized that I wanted to write music and not try to sound like anyone else. Swill is all original…we never play anyone else’s music. With a catalog like we have now, we could play a 3-hour set and still have music left over. At our recent CD release party, we played for over 2 and a half hours.
Q. Tell us about your new music (Song/EP/Mixtape/Album)? And what’s the story behind it?
A. Our new album was mostly created during the pandemic. We are always writing, but that particular time gave us the opportunity to work just on music because we weren’t preparing for shows and such. We believe our new album contains everything that is Swill. Reviews so far have reflected the fact that this album will take you in many different directions when listening. Lots of surprises.
Q. What makes your music unique? How would you describe it? (genres/sub-genres)
A. We describe ourselves as a rock band. That’s it…simple. Our music combines many elements of classic and modern rock…but at the heart of it, we are just a rock band.
Q. Who are your biggest music influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
A.For us, there are far too many to list. We all come from different backgrounds, but each of us loves all genres of music. It’s helped us to create the soup that becomes Swill music.
Q. How long have you been in the music industry?
A.Since 2008. The band has gone through many members since then, but the direction of the band has always been true.
Q. Which is the best moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of? (awards, projects or public performances etc.
A.Each time we release a new album, it’s a special moment for us. So right now, we are truly celebrating everything that is special about Swill. Hearing feedback from others about your music is always exciting and the response so far has been overwhelmingly good.
Q. How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends or work?
A.Very well. Swill doesn’t interfere with our personal lives at all, and we have amazing support from the people in our lives.
Q. What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
A. Make music you truly love, or you will always feel like you’re not getting the joy out of it that you should.
Q. If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
A. Thank you for taking the time to listen to Swill and taking a chance on something that is a little bit different…because we don’t fit perfectly into 1 genre. If you haven’t heard Swill yet, we hope you will…but you might need to listen to more than one song to truly hear the range of the bands sound.
Q. What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
A.We just had a very successful local CD release party and are hoping to build off of that, both locally, and beyond.
